Private partnerships are essential to preservation. In West Orange, the home and laboratories of Thomas Edison are undergoing a major renovation that was made possible by the millions in private donations raised for funding. The Glenmont estate is now open to the public for tours. Edison's laboratories, known as the "invention factory," are still under renovation and are closed to the public. When the renovation is complete, a sophisticated phonograph gallery housing an array of historic Edison phonographs will be displayed.
