Women
in Science and Engineering
Show #203
Aired November 26, 2002
Over the past 30
years, efforts have been made to open up new career paths
for women in science and engineering fields. We'll look at
the results of these efforts. The data so far suggests there
has been a lot of progress in getting women into the pipeline,
but the progress itself highlights some persistent problems
and new challenges. The panel will survey the scene for women
in various scientific and engineering fields today, attempting
a realistic assessment of progress in various fields - as
measured by salary, tenure, and promotion - and discuss what's
behind the numbers. Far from being an abstract discussion
of social engineering, we expect a lively discussion based
on our guests' own experiences and observations.
Guest Panelists:
Dr. Kathrin Jansen, Drug Researcher, Merck; Dr. Lisa Klein,
Ceramics Engineer, Rutgers University; and Dr. Margaret Wright,
Computer Scientist, New York University. |
