El
Frustrado Verb - Part 2 (3213)
The story continues in Newark, New Jersey.
The new migrants from Puerto Rico find work
in a restaurant as dish washers. Pedro,
the main character, sends for his wife,
Juana. They get married at Saint Patricks
Church and hold the wedding reception on
the roof of their building because nothing
else was available. Soon they realize that
other Puerto Ricans celebrate birthdays
and fiestas on roof tops across
the neighborhood. The play illustrates how
life was in the 1950s and how family values,
taught by grandparents in the olden days,
are often the untapped solutions to the
daily frustrations of the modern world.
