The story of a Puerto Rican familys
arrival in Newark, New Jersey during the
1950s is dramatized in a musical comedy
highlighting the struggles, misconceptions
and the importance of traditional values
for migrants searching for a better life.
The production is a community outreach project
between Aspira of New Jersey and NJNs
Images/Imagenes. The goal is to bring theatre
and television into urban areas, utilize
local talent and educate youth on the history
of their culture and families. Part 1 takes
you from the economic depression in Puerto
Rico to the farm workers in Georgia. Along
the way, you will laugh with Spanish Elvis
and his vision of a wealthy life in Newark,
a city where money is found in every street
corner.
