Outstanding Peruvians (3205)
They came to Paterson New Jersey in search of work but soon their talents in soccer opened the doors for a large migration of athletes from Peru. These were the players the US corporations and factories had been trying to find. Soon their numbers grew. The Peruvians won championships and revitalized Paterson and the neighboring cities, Clifton and Passaic. Their South American flair, devotion to culture, business and family tradition became symbols of pride. Today, Peruvian Daniel Jara is nationally recognized for his success with NJ Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. On October 6, 2004, the United States Government will bestow national honors in memory of Lt. Richard Torres, the first Peruvian soldier to die in the Iraq War This program captures the essence and spirit of the Peruvian community in New Jersey.
