Prisoner Re-Entry
Show #1205
| There are more than 27,000 inmates in New Jersey’s prisons – and almost all of them will, eventually, be released. But what happens next? Nearly two-thirds of them will be re-arrested within three years! So, on this edition of Due Process, we look at the problem of prisoner re-entry. In a field piece that includes interviews with four former NJ attorneys general, Sandra King examines some efforts to ease re-entry, but finds that ex-convicts, too often, encounter daunting barriers, beginning with serious impediments to employment. In the studio, Raymond Brown’s explores the subject with Princeton Professor Bruce Western, Victims’ Rights Advocate Kathy Garcia and State Corrections Official Darcella Sessomes. |
