Show #1Reinventing High School Science – Physics teacher Robert Goodman believes that, to retain our competitive edge in the world, all students need to be introduced to more science. Bob collaborates with educators at Bergen County Technical School in Teterboro in an effort to improve student achievement in physics, science and math. To find out more about helping high school students build a stronger foundation in scientific knowledge and understanding, read Physics First: An Informational Guide for Teachers, School Administrators, Parents, Scientists, and the Public.

Wind Turbine – Berlin Community School students save the district money by harnessing the power of wind to generate electricity. Incorporating science, math and technology, the students design, construct and evaluate the cost savings of wind power. This program is funded by a grant from the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education.

Kearney Marsh – AP biology students from Kearney High School survey marshlands and then build and install bird houses in an effort to attract birds that combat mosquito infestations. The Meadowlands has the only fresh water in the area, creating a significant environmental impact for the residents of Kearney.

Hamilton to Hollywood – Kenny Sack, a teacher at Hamilton Terrace School in Berkeley Heights, composes character education songs for his students. The New Jersey teacher won the 2007 Los Angeles Music award for Best Children’s Music. For more information go to www.kennykidsmusic.com
