Urban Teacher Academy – Studies suggest that while two million teachers may be needed nationally over the next ten years, traditional teacher preparation programs have only 1 million prospective teachers in the pipeline. Shortages are acute for math, science, special education, bilingual and early childhood teachers. For that reason, the College of New Jersey offers a summer High School urban Teacher Academy to high school juniors interested in pursuing careers in urban education.
Educators’ Day – After a twenty-two month, $109 million expansion and renewal project, Liberty Science Center reopens its doors with a preview to New Jersey teachers. See all the new educational opportunities to New Jersey schools and children.
What’s a Million – Students at Linwood Middle School in North Brunswick are collecting one million pennies. Half the money will be donated to the community. The other half will go for new books to support the Balanced Literacy Program. The goal is for the students to work together towards a common goal to benefit the community and the school.
American Symphony Orchestra – Working with Emerson High School, the American Symphony Orchestra conducts an innovative instructional program using a humanities approach to symphonic music that not only touches the lives of the students and teachers, but the community as well. Through a series of workshops, teachers are introduced to strategies that will facilitate the infusion of the content and context of symphonic music into their curriculum.
