Author Naomi Drew provides Peaceful Parenting workshops and works with the teacher on conflict resolution/peacemaking skill lessons. Artist Tony LaSalle guides the children in creating murals and individual paintings.
The Great Reading Race - Students at Ravine Drive Elementary School in Matawan are involved in an incentive reading program called “The Great Reading Race”. The goal is to foster a sense of fun competition and a love for reading among all the students, including special education students. Students earn mileage by reading a certain amount of books or pages each month.
Cat in the Hat - Special education students in Pineland Regional High School in Tuckerton are sharing their love of reading with preschool children at a local nursery school. This year to celebrate the Cat in the Hat, the high school students will read storybooks to the toddlers, make crafts and leave a book with each child.
Heroes Fair North - Second graders at Hillside School in Closter, are inviting the community to a Heroes Fair Celebration. This project requires the appreciation of history, but also, inspires students to discover what constitutes ‘heroics’ and invites them to explore their own inner strengths, compassion for others, a sense of right and wrong, a tolerance for differences, and the realization that every individual has the power to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
