Heroes Luncheon – Educational Support Professionals at Charles Lewis Middle School in Blackwood host a heroes’ luncheon for firefighters, police officers, and other local heroes. The staff prepares the meal and helps with all the details. Students get involved by writing thank you notes, and making posters and centerpieces.
Maud Dahme – This year, the winner of the NJEA Ruth Ann Shear Distinguished Service Award is former New Jersey Board of Education member Maud Dahme. Known as a “Hidden Child”, she is featured in an NJN documentary about her life during the Holocaust. Dahme visits public schools all over the state telling her story of survival.
DLC – The Developmental Learning Center in Montclair is a public preschool for disabled children. The preschool children receive intensive services from psychologists, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, and social workers.
Hooray for New Jersey – While learning about New Jersey, students at Fort Lee School #4 discovered that there is no state song. So they wrote their own and called it “Hooray for New Jersey.”
