first year teacherFirst Year Teacher – Julie Becker is learning the ropes as a first year teacher at Rancocas Valley Regional High School. But she’s not alone in her quest to educate the young minds of today. She has an entire school family to help her survive and thrive as a New Jersey educator.

Books in the Park – Many immigrant families are uncomfortable or unable to visit the local library in the summer. So Pat Quinteros, a teacher at Pine Grove Manor School in Somerset, came up with an idea to bring the library to the families. Thanks to a grant from the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education, a lending library was set up in a local park.

Misunderstood Minds - Menlo Park Terrace School in Wood-bridge is successfully using methods of recognizing, understanding and managing differences in learning. The strategies help children in the areas of concentration, memory, language, time management, motor abilities and social interaction. The framework is based on scientific research and is built on the belief that all children can learn and succeed based on a better understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses. Education Commissioner – Host Joyce Powell talks with Education Commissioner Dr. William Librera about how students and teachers are meeting the challenges facing New Jersey public schools.
