Grandma's
Attic - Kindergartners at Westbrook Elementary in
West Milford collected antiques and souvenirs to learn
more about American heritage. Grandparents and local
senior citizens were invited to share their memories
of childhood. This program is funded through a grant
from the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence
in Education.
Heroes
Garden - On Veteran's Day, students at Borough Elementary
in Morris Plains honored several guests, including a
WWII Purple Heart recipient. The tribute included a
stirring celebration in the student-created Heroes Garden,
as a flag that once flew over the US Capitol was raised
by Marine color guard.
Nation's
Port - At Long Branch's A.A. Anastasia Elementary
School, the Marine/Environmental Science fifth grade
students joined seniors from Sandy Hook's Marine Academy
of Science and Technology High School on a field trip.
During this Schools Helping Schools project, the students
learned about the value of the ports of NY and NJ and
the harbor ecosystem.
Early
Childhood Education - Ceil Zalkind from the Association
for Children of New Jersey and Gorden MacInnes, an Assistant
Commissioner of Education talk about the importance
of early childhood education.
