Montgomery
Challenger - Special education students from Montgomery
Township schools have formed a Little League baseball
team. Teachers help organize and high school students
volunteer as baseball buddies. With parents help and
support, this competition a positive and memorable experience
for everyone.
Romeo
& Juliet - Years ago Marianne Eitel, a teacher
at Kingsway Regional High School in Swedesboro, discovered
that the traditional written exam is not always the
best way to determine a student's progress in school.
During a study of Romeo and Juliet, the students demonstrate
what they've learned through performances, intense projects
including the creation of a video and a newspaper from
that era. This type of assessing student process is
called Performance Evaluation.
Performance
Evaluation - Educational experts debate the concept
of standardized testing verses performance evaluation.
NJEA Vice President Joyce Powell will discuss this educational
concept with David Nash of the NJ Principals and supervisors
Association and Christine Kane of the Association of
Supervisors and Curriculum Development.
Thematic
Gardening - A rose is not just a rose in Elizabeth
Avenue School in Franklin Township. The students incorporate
literature, art, computers, and science to plant a garden.
This program is funded through a grant from the NJEA
Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education.
