Migratory
Birds - Maureen Barrett's 8th grade students from
Mt. Laurel Middle School join volunteers at Reed's Beach
to witness a massive migration of shorebirds and participate
in research project headed up by leading scientists
from across the world. The Red Knot is a bird that flies
annually from the bottom of South America to the top
of Canada, with one of the stops at the Delaware Bay
to feed on the horseshoe crab eggs.
WonderBears
- Wyckoff kindergartners celebrate the return of bears
that traveled to schools all over the world as part
of a cultural exchange. In addition to being a geography
lesson, the students learn that children are they same
no matter where they live. This is part of a worldwide
peace project.
Beat
of their Heart - Students at the Upper Elementary
School in Plainsboro are using high tech in their physical
education classes. With the help of a computer program,
palm pilots and pedometers, the students can download
their individual heart rate and provide a minute-by-minute
analysis of their heart rates. This program is funded
through the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence
in Education.
Bus
Safety - As part of a safety education program,
bus drivers visit Gloucester Township Elementary to
perform skits. The young students learn safety tips
while being entertained by the people who drive their
busses.
