Teen
Arts Festival Students from across the state
display their artwork to be critiqued by famous artists.
Students also perform plays, musical numbers and dance
arrangements at the New Jersey Teen Arts Festival.
ESP
of the Year Richie Malizia, a school attendance
officer from Union City, received the prestigious National
Education Association Outstanding Educational Support
Personnel (ESP) for the Year 2000. This national recognition
was given in part for his efforts to keep kids in school
through the use of a school team that identifies problems
early, before the child drops out of school.
Classes
in Grasses Special education students at
Pineland Regional Middle School in Tuckerton take on
the role of adviser to regular education students while
creating classroom gardens. This program is funded through
the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence
in Education.
Camden
Challenge The State Supreme Court ordered
the state to pay additional money for poor urban schools.
But before the state provides the money, it requires
schools to create a plan on how the money will be spent.
Camden High School has a site-based management team
consisting of students, parents and school personnel.
This team is working hard to make sure the money is
put to good use.
