HIV Diseasemay no longer captivate headlines, but it remains a deadly health crisis for African Americans. On this month’s edition of Another View, the status of HIV Disease and its impact on the African American community is our focus.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, African Americans account for nearly half of all estimated new AIDS diagnoses in the United States. For black women between the ages of 25 to 34, it is the leading cause of death. In New Jersey, an estimated one in every 65 African Americans is living with HIV compared to 1 in every 837 whites.
In this edition of Another View hosted by NJN News Reporter and Back- up Anchor Kent St. John we’ll explore some of the reasons why this disease continues to disproportionately impact the black community.
Guests include Carol Thame program supervisor for Trenton New Jersey’s' HIV prevention programs and Ben Hinson, author of Three Months, a fictional novel written to promote HIV awareness.
