Executive Producer/Host

Linda L. Coles is executive producer of Another View, NJN’s award-winning public affairs program serving New Jersey’s diverse African American community.

Coles has more than 20 years experience in the broadcasting industry concentrating primarily on news and public affairs programming. Her work has received numerous regional Emmy nominations from the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, has been cited by the New Jersey Press Broadcasters Association, the Garden State Association of Black Journalists and is the recipient of the 2004 and 2005 Unity Award in Media.

Most recently Coles’ award winning documentary on civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer was distributed nationally through PBS.

Coles served as a staff producer at NJN from 1985 to 1993, where she focused on political segments, minority affairs and news packages for NJN NEWS and Another View.

In 1993, Coles joined KYW-TV3 in Philadelphia as a producer of the public affairs programs, Square Off, and the weekly Philadelphia Saturday Tribune. Coles played a key role in the expansion of KYW’s weekend news programming.

Coles returned to NJN as executive producer of Another View in 1997.

In her current position she has broadened the focus of Another View by producing programming that addresses issues of cultural sensitivity and ethnic diversity.

A native New Jerseyan, she serves on the Governing Board of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Philadelphia Chapter, and has represented NJN as a panelist at numerous workshops and conferences including the 2004 PBS Development Conference in Orlando, Florida. That year she was also selected to participate in the CPB/PBS Producers academy. More than 230 applications were received. Candidates were evaluated by representatives of CPB and PBS. The 20 recipients were chosen based on their work experience, particularly as it applied to public television; their stated professional goals; the strength of their storytelling skills, as demonstrated in their video presentation; the depth of experience; the applicants’ current production projects, and the recommendations received.

Coles is a graduate of Rutgers University. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and currently serves as Vice President of the Garden State Association of Black Journalists. She enjoys mentoring students and has served as an adjunct professor at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
