NPR news magazines feature host Scott Simon on Saturdays and Liane Hansen on Sundays. The weekend program offers national news reports and insightful interviews with newsmakers around the country.

Each week, nearly 4 million listeners tune in to Weekend Edition Saturday for news, features and entertainment anchored by Scott Simon, NPR's Peabody Award-winning host and correspondent. Drawing on his experience in covering 10 wars and stories in all 50 states and seven continents, Scott brings a humorous, sophisticated and often moving perspective to Weekend Edition Saturday. He's adept at speaking to everyone, from heads of state to Hollywood celebrities. He grills politicians, trades jokes with children and talks over the week's news events with NPR Senior News Analyst Daniel Schorr.

When Weekend Edition Sunday debuted on Jan. 18, 1987, NPR's morning and evening newsmagazines were extended to seven days a week. Conceived as a cross between a Sunday newspaper and CBS' Sunday Morning, the program has featured interviews with newsmakers, artists, scientists, politicians, musicians, writers, theologians and historians as well as news events. Susan Stamberg was the original host of the show. Liane Hansen replaced her in 1989. When she's not in the studio interviewing movers and shakers in politics, science, business and the arts, Liane is out in the field reporting. Her travels have taken her from the slums of Cairo to the iron mines of Michigan's Upper Penninsula; from the oyster beds on the bayou in Houma, La., to Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park; and from the kitchens of Colonial Williamsburg, Va., to the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.
