Like the classic TV series of the 1970s, the new Electric Company helps kids become better readers. With a fresh mix of music, comedy, technology, pop culture, and celebrities, it offers 6- to 9-year-olds a playful, hip multi-media experience.
Each episode follows the adventures of four friends who have “literacy superpowers”, such as the ability to create and maneuver text on any surface. They’re defenders of the spoken and written word, and they often have to foil the mischievous efforts of some neighborhood pranksters who wreak havoc with their own word skills.

Cast:
• “Keith Watson,” is a 13-year-old boy with the power to turn words into graphics/animation.
• “Jessica Ruiz,” is a 13-year-old girl with total aural recall allowing her to replay and display speech as text.
• “Lisa Heffenbacher,” is a high school student with the power to solve any word problem at super human speed.
• “Hector Ruiz,” is a 20-year-old college student (and older brother to Jessica) that has the power to visually recall things he’s seen, even if only peripherally.
• “Shock”, teaches letter sounds and words through a series of short films. He’s an Electric Company member who works in
the diner and provides the beat as the Company carries out its missions.
Broadband Experience
The website www.pbskidsgo.org/electriccompany allows kids to experience the world of The Electric Company within an interactive community, regardless of their familiarity with the TV series. Live-action video of actors from the series will greet kids and help them explore the neighborhood of the site. The experience will be a blend of YouTube, MySpace, and American Idol, allowing kids to decorate their own profiles, create video remixes, and play games to win points in support of their favorite Electric Company characters. The site will feature full episodes, web exclusive video, curriculum games, and resource & outreach material to supplement the TV series.

• Personalized Page Kids can personalize their own profiles, showcases any videos and songs that they create on the site, and store their favorite video clips, pictures, and songs from the show. Their point tally, favorite character, and collected prizes are all displayed on the profile page.
• Overgame In addition to their own game score, kids will play games to win points in support of their selected favorite character. Earning points for a character allows a sense of community among fans and the excitement of an unpredictable competition beyond the narrative of the show.
• Video Mash-Up Tool Kids will use video clips, graphics, and songs from the show to make their own video creations. Mash-ups are displayed in the gallery for all kids on the site to watch and rate.
• Curriculum Games Seven Electric Challenge games allow kids to play and earn points, with new versions of the games reflecting each episode’s weekly curriculum. Games include word-based challenges and module segment animations. The Shock Beatbox studio allows kids to mix word sounds with beats to create their own audio track.
• Character Profiles and Video Greetings Cast members live on every page of the site, guiding kids through each section with live-action video. Kids can learn more about their favorite characters by viewing each character’s profile.
