Walker is a three-time Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award winner and has won national awards for producing, writing and editing. In 2004, she received a New York Emmy Award and national Cine Golden Eagle for the documentary, The Race for Open Space. In addition to her awards, Walker has earned 18 regional Emmy nominations. For two years, Walker worked with the New Jersey Department of Education to create a professional development series for teachers called Reading First New Jersey. These programs included teleconferences, panel discussions and classroom demonstration of scientifically-based research by New Jersey educators. The goal of this series was to improve each child’s ability to become a successful reader by the end of third grade. The programs were available on DVD and on-line as an integral part of New Jersey’s comprehensive Early Literacy priority.
Walker graduated with honors from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, with a bachelor’s degree in journalism/mass media. She also has an associate’s degree in communications from Burlington County College. As a college student, she helped to form a nonprofit organization called the Whitesbog Preservation Trust, dedicated to preserving the historic village of Whitesbog in New Jersey. Walker received a grant from The Burlington County Cultural and Heritage Commission to produce her first independent documentary Whitesbog: A Century of Innovation.
Walker enjoys learning about the natural world and is a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists.
