Wayne Bryant, Jr.
Co-Producer
In Memoriam
Wayne Bryant,
Jr. joined NJN in 2003 as an Assistant
Producer/Director. He received his BA in Radio, Television,
and Film from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
There, he studied under award winning filmmakers Haile
Gerima (Sankofa) and Bill Duke ( A Rage in Harlem, Deep
Cover).
While at Howard, Bryant worked on many student and
on-air productions including Howard University News Vision,
where he served as Post-Production Coordinator. He also
received praise for his short film projects, which he
wrote as well as directed. He spent most summers teaching
video production to youth in Washington as part of the
D.C. Arts Program.
Wayne Bryant, Jr. also worked as a Producer/Director
for Capitol Television, Inc. in Silver Spring , Maryland, where he wrote and directed local commercials, music videos,
and video news packages. He also created and co-produced Sound
Factory, a half-hour weekly music magazine style
show, that featured many of the top names in the recording
industry. Sound Factory aired on Washington D.C.'s
WB affiliate Channel 50 and earned two local Emmy Award
nominations.
As a native
of Lawnside , New Jersey, Bryant was excited to be part of
the NJN team. "It has always been my
mission to involve myself in quality television projects.
I am honored to be part of an organization that has represented
my home state in such a positive light for so many years."
At NJN, Wayne
Bryant, Jr. lent his creativity and production
skills to a plethora of diverse projects including:
- Discover Jersey Arts, a weekly on-air arts ticket to artistic events going on throughout the state
- Jersey Arts, 90-second radio produced spots celebrating events currently taking place
- Horizon HealthFuture Project, mentoring youth from local Boys & Girls Clubs while teaching them the process of creating their own videos on health care-related topics
- Another View, NJN's public affairs show highlighting the African-American Community and other diverse cultures.
As associate producer and editor of Another View, Bryant helped the show achieve such honors as winning back to back Unity Awards (2004 & 2005) in Media for Excellence in the accurate exposure of issues affecting minorities and disabled persons, and two 2004 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Nominations for Outstanding Public Affair Series and Outstanding Talk Program/Series. Another View also received a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Nomination in 2005 for Outstanding Entertainment Program.
Wayne Bryant, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2006. He was a valued member of the NJN family. His creative talents and free spirit are irreplaceable. He is sorely missed.
