Steven
E. Some, Chairman
New Jersey Commission on
Holocaust Education
Understanding the
horrors of the Holocaust is a difficult task. However, the
NJN Documentary Lessons for Life does an excellent job in
offering students a glimpse into one of the darkest periods
of human history.
The New Jersey
Commission on Holocaust Education strongly endorses Lesson
for Life as a tool to teach our children about the Holocaust.
This accompanying teacher guide prepares educators to better
help their students fully comprehend the social and historical
importance of the Holocaust. It is our hope that a thorough
understanding of the material presented in Lessons for Life
will enable students to find goodness and tolerance in their
lives.
The Commission
congratulates NJN for its excellent effort on the development
of this documentary and appreciates the contribution of those
who helped to fund the project. Those involved in the development
of the teacher guide are also to be thanked.
The core mission
of the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education is to
promote Holocaust education in the State of New Jersey. On
a continual basis, the Commission shall survey the status
of Holocaust Education; design, encourage and promote the
implementation of Holocaust and genocide education and awareness;
provide programs in New Jersey; and coordinate designated
events that will provide appropriate memorialization of the
Holocaust on a regular basis throughout the state. The Commission
will provide assistance and advice to the public and private
schools and will meet with county and local school officials,
and other interested public and private organizations, to
assist with planning courses of study on the Holocaust.
