Armando
Rascon
"Border
Xicanography", a multi-media installation
at the Newark Museum, is Mexican-American artist
Armando Rascon's highly personal response to the
experience of growing up on the border between
the United States and Mexico. Using audio, video,
still photography, and a collection of ceremonial
and commonplace objects, he creates a space that
allows the viewer to experience the world of the
undocumented border crosser on the eve of his
uncertain fate.

"On
the Edge of Your Seat" at the Montclair
Museum explores how fine artists depicted--and
reacted to--popular entertainment from the 1890s
to 1930. Vaudeville and movies provided a rich
source for painters, photographers, and sculptors
who wanted to make art about what it meant to
be modern.
