Morristown: Where America Survived
Friday, October 16 at 8 PM and Sunday, October 18 at 7:30 PM
ON NJN2 in January

Statewide:  By 1780, the entire eastern seaboard was plunged into a winter of major snowfalls and unrelenting freezing temperatures. George Washington himself reported that "... the oldest people now living in this region do not remember so hard a winter."

NJN’s newest documentary Morristown: Where America Survived  tells the story of that “Hard Winter of 1780” when George Washington brought over ten thousand troops to Morristown, New Jersey, where they struggled to survive the worst winter in recorded history, with the American Revolution hanging in the balance.

The program revisits that winter of 1779-80 when Washington’s troops arrived at the densely wooded area just south of Morristown known as Jockey Hollow, to build a log hut city for their winter camp.  The film is an eye-opening look at how the camp saved the army – and the American Revolution – from the brink of disaster.

Morristown's significance as a safe haven for Washington and his troops has been overlooked for too long.  It is time to take a new look at the story.

Based on John T. Cunningham’s book “The Uncertain Revolution,” Morristown: Where America Survived  was shot on location at Morristown National Historical Park and is narrated by award-winning actor Edward Herrmann, who has voiced many history documentaries over his extensive career.  Morristownwas produced by NJN’s Emmy Award winning producer, Bob Szuter.
