Tuesday, August 25 at 7 pm, and Friday, August 28 at 11:30 pm
Statewide – Foreclosed, vacant and abandoned. The worst housing crisis in the nation’s history is not just statistics – it’s faces – it’s people – it’s lives disrupted, memories boxed up for an unknown home, furniture given away and appliances left behind to be stolen. Facing the Mortgage Crisis, airing on NJN1 on August 25 at 7 pm, and August 28 at 11:30 pm, takes you to Camden, NJ. Another View producer Linda Coles hears the stories of individuals who are about to lose their homes, and community members who are trying to help them work through this nearly hopeless situation.
Virtually every part of the country has been affected by the melt-down of the housing sector. New Jersey, with some of the highest property values as well as costs of living, has not been immune. In Camden, New Jersey, Another View speaks with homeowners like Vonda Long, who is facing foreclosure, as well as members of the community who are on the front lines battling this national debacle. The program offers varied perspectives and presents some of the efforts underway to address the mortgage crisis and the overwhelming issue of vacant and abandoned properties in Camden.
“I wish I could give you a happy ending. I don’t have it. There isn’t enough out there to help people. It’s a crisis!” remarked attorney Rebecca Schore, Legal Services of New Jersey who was interviewed for this special. Other interviews include Reverend Willie Anderson, pastor of Sword of the Spirit Christian Center and Chairman of Camden Churches Organized for People (CCOP); Pilar Hogan-Closkey; Executive Director of St. Joseph’s Carpenter’s Society; and Marge Della Vecchia, Executive Director of the New Jersey Housing, Mortgage Finance Agency.
