KENT MANAHAN: ANCHORING A LEGACY
Friday, December 19 at 10 pm; Sunday, December 21 at 4 pm

STATEWIDENJN News senior political correspondent Michael Aron interviews former senior anchor Kent Manahan about her life and work in this one-hour retrospective special entitled Kent Manahan: Anchoring A Legacy that highlights excerpts from the many programs she has hosted including the magazine series New Jersey Personalities.  The program features Manahan’s personal life growing up in New Jersey and raising a family of six children. Segments from several documentaries are showcased including Battered Wives, Shattered Lives on domestic abuse; No Place to Call Home about homeless women living on the street; Alice Paul: Crusader for Equality about the suffragist; Drumthwackett: Then and Now on the history of the governor’s mansion in Princeton; and Gorbachev Remembers with former USSR president Mikhail Gorbachev during a trip to New Jersey. The show airs on NJN on Friday, December 19, at 10 pm; and Sunday, December 21 at 4 pm; and can be seen on the web at www.njn.net.

Manahan has been covering New Jersey for more than three decades as news anchor of the Emmy-Award winning NJN News and reporting on issues and events that affect residents of New Jersey.  After more than three decades of service, Manahan stepped down from her anchor chair and, on December 4, 2008, was appointed as the acting executive director of NJN. Manahan replaced former executive director Elizabeth G. Christopherson and will serve as interim acting executive director until a permanent successor is named.

Manahan is a five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and winner of the Scripps-Howard National Journalism Award. Her broad-based knowledge of what matters most to New Jersey residents developed while reporting on a variety of issues of statewide importance, including homeland security, education, homelessness, domestic violence and the elderly. She has covered national political conventions as well as US Senate and gubernatorial elections. In this program, Manahan reveals the emotions behind the stories including covering the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the aftermath.

Funding for Kent Manahan: Anchoring A Legacy is made possible through the generous support of Greenberg Traurig, and by The Walsh Family, New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company and The Halpern Family Foundation.  Producer is Lynn Kosek Walker, the director is Janet McGuire. Cindy Carpenter is off-line editor, Rick English is online editor. Michael Aron is the executive producer.
