NJN Public Television Receives 7 New York Emmy Nominations
Trenton, NJ – The New York Emmy Award nominations were announced in New York City on February 8 and NJN Public Television was well represented with a total of 7 nominations over five categories.
NJN’s weekly arts program, State of the Arts, received 4 nominations – 2 in the Arts Program/Special category for Prince Charming (Christopher Benincasa, Producer and Amber Edwards, Senior Producer), and Sign of the Times (Eric Schultz, Producer and Nila Aronow, Executive Producer); and two in the Magazine Program category for House & Garden (Amber Edwards, Senior Producer and Susan Wallner, Series Producer) and Wired (Christopher Benincasa and Eric Schultz, Producers). Celebrating its 25th year on NJN, State of the Arts has earned 25 Mid-Atlantic and New York Emmys, including most recently, a 2006 Mid-Atlantic Emmy for Outstanding Magazine Program/Special. State of the Arts airs weekly on NJN Fridays at 8:30 pm and Wednesdays at 11:30 pm. State of the Arts is co-produced by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts with additional funding provided by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
NJN received a nomination in the Environment category for its special Turning the Tide (Avery Brooks, Narration; Bob Szuter and Lynn Kosek Walker, Producers; Janice Selinger, Executive Producer). This program, which examines New Jersey’s wetlands and their role as a critical natural resource, has won several awards including the CINE (Council on International Non-Theatrical Events) Golden Eagle Award and a New York Festivals Gold World Medal in the category of Environment and Ecology. NJN’s public affairs series on justice issues, Due Process, received a New York Emmy nomination in the Interview/Discussion Series category (Sandra King, Senior Producer/Managing Editor; Henrietta Parker, Coordinating Producer; Raymond Brown, Host; and Jeff Friedman, Executive Producer). To date, Due Process has won 2 New York Emmys – including the 2006 Emmy for Best Criminal Justice Reporting – and 7 Mid-Atlantic Emmys. The program, currently in its 12th season on NJN, is broadcast weekly on Sundays at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm, and Tuesdays at 11:30 pm. Major funding for Due Process provided by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation with additional funding provided by The Fund for New Jersey.
In the Craft Specialty: Musical Composition/Arrangement category, composer Robert Sands is nominated for his musical scoring of the NJN documentary special The Hidden Child. The documentary follows the life story of Maud Dahme, a New Jersey resident and former president of the NJ Board of Education, who was one of the estimated 3,000 to 8,000 Jewish children in the Netherlands who were hidden and saved from the Nazi death camps. The Hidden Child will be distributed to public television stations nationally through PBS this spring. For more information on this program visit njn.net. The New York Emmy Award winners will be announced during the annual awards ceremony at the Marriott Marquis in New York City’s Times Square on April 1, 2007.
