The Importance of Communication on NJN’s Images/Imagenes
Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Sundays at 8:00 am

Trenton, NJ – The award-winning series Images/Imagenes on NJN Public Television examines the issues, trends, and concerns important to the Latino community and celebrates Latino culture with features on music, dance, and art. This month, Images/Imagenes, offers several programs that stress the importance of good communication – in translation, in medical environments, and cross-culturally. Tune in to NJN for Images/Imagenes Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Sundays at 8:00 am.

Images/Imagenes: What Did You Say?
Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, March 4 at 8:00 am

Translating mistakes can lead to death, incarceration, medical law suits, or a ruined business. Even the word “translation” is often misused. Join professional interpreters and translators as they review the common translation errors made by companies, family members, and friends.

Images/Imagenes: Health Care: Crossing Boundaries – Eliminating Fear
Thursday, March 8 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, March 11 at 8:00 am

According to a study by the Commonwealth Fund, one in three Hispanics have problems communicating with their doctor. The aim of this program is to provide quality healthcare information to help medical professionals communicate more effectively with Latino families and children through understanding the cultural and economic factors affecting their lives. Topics discussed include, reaching the Latino patient, understanding cultural belief systems, why many Latino children do not receive proper preventive care and immunizations, and others.

Images/Imagenes: The Best in Latino Entertainment
Thursday, March 15 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, March 18 at 8:00 am

This program offers entertainment for everyone. The story of tennis star Pancho Gonzalez will interest the sports fan, while a trip to the Newark Museum for Mi Puerto Rico – the first major exhibit in the continental United States devoted to Puerto Rico’s three greatest painters, Jose Campeche, Francisco Oller and Miguel Pou, will please art lovers. For theater enthusiasts, it’s the award winning Latinologues – a highly acclaimed touring show created by Rick Najera (In Living Color), rocking audiences across the country with its irreverent look at Latino American culture and the eccentric characters who populate it. Comedian Eugenio Derbez leads the cast. And to wrap it all up, dance fans won’t want to miss Sounds in the City – a look at a Salsa extravaganza at NJPAC.

Images/Imagenes: NJN Hispanic Youth Showcase: 20 Years Later
Thursday, March 22 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, March 25 at 8:00 am

They are teachers, journalists, performers, soldiers, corporate executives, and community leaders – and they are all connected by the NJN Hispanic Youth Showcase. Images/Imagenes brings back the former stars of the showcase, relives their wonderful moments on stage, and looks at where they are now. The program also features the announcement of the winner of the 2006 NJN Road to Stardom competition.

Images/Imagenes: Crossing Bridges of Understanding
Thursday, March 29 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, April 1 at 8:00 am

A teenager’s quest to understand her friend leads to a documentary on the life of a young athlete who runs for track dressed in Muslim attire. The program explores how each of us sees society. Muslim Latino teenagers join us in our studio to express their thoughts in an open discussion on religion, teen dating, current events, and the experience of living in two worlds.

Images/Imagenes airs on NJN Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Sundays at 8:00 am. The half-hour program is web cast at njn.net and can be seen on NJN’s JerseyVision and on Time Warner Cable on channel 750 in New York. Closed captioning is provided.

NJN is available on all New Jersey cable systems, satellite systems, and Time Warner Cable channel 750 in NYC.
Images/Imagenes is also available via video streaming at njn.net after the original broadcast.
