Images/Imagenes: Urban Battles in Dance
Thursday, April 12 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, April 15 at 8:00 am

In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, a young generation of dancers took to the streets, masters of an art form that survives today and has established roots in Japan, Germany, France, Korea and Hungry. They are “Breakers” – better known as B-boys, and recently, B-girls – the innovators of break dancing. Dancers like Michael Jackson and music of James Brown brought the beat to a wide audience, while movies like Flashdance, Wild Style, Beat Street and Breakin’ drew the nation’s attention to the urban streets of New York, Chicago and California where young men and women tried to out perform each other in dance wars. Join Images/Imagenes for a look at the stars of the urban battles in dance.

Images/Imagenes: Abandoned Babies: An Epidemic on the Rise?
Thursday, April 19 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, April 22 at 8:00 am

Across the country headlines of newborns being left on door steps, inside strangers’ cars, in school bathrooms or in trash cans are becoming too frequent. Often these are the babies of young teenage mothers, who risk death in child birth – the number one killer of women under the age of 20. Their stories are similar – unwanted pregnancies resulting from rape and/or unprotected sex with a boyfriend, relative or older man. Under great emotional stress and unable to support the child, these young mothers abandon their babies in hopes of gaining their freedom and returning to a life they once knew. Others may seek a good home for their babies, but too often, abandoned babies die leaving the mothers open to criminal prosecution. This program takes a look at the epidemic in America and its impact on young Latinas. It offers advice to young mothers and provides legal information that may help save an infant’s life.
