Trenton – Come face to face with the awesome great white shark with Beyond JAWS: Down Under with the Great White Shark on NJN Public Television, Sunday, November 5 at 11:00 pm. Part of its NJN Classics series, this half-hour Emmy-nominated special, features producer Sandy Levine following noted underwater filmmaker Stan Waterman into the steel shark cage to experience the great white up close. Beyond JAWS: Down Under with the Great White Shark was shot off the coast of South Australia. The program, with an introduction by the late Peter Benchley, author of Jaws, examines efforts to protect the great white shark, whose numbers reportedly are declining.

Mr. Waterman of Lawrenceville, NJ is one of the pioneers of scuba diving and underwater filmmaking. In 1968 he was associate producer and underwater cameraman on the classic shark film Blue Water, White Death. He also was co-director of underwater photography and second unit in the production of The Deep. Mr. Waterman has won numerous awards, including five Emmys and the Cousteau Diver of the Year Award.

Ms. Levine of Toms River, NJ has worked for NJN Public Television since 1988 as a producer, reporter, and host. Currently she hosts and produces Homeless Tails, a series on animal welfare and adoption.

The NJN Classics series offers viewers a second look at the best of NJN. Drawing from more than thirty years of critically acclaimed documentaries, entertaining specials, and in-depth programs, the series provides a fascinating look back at a wide variety of NJN-produced programs, from history and the arts, to nature and public affairs. Hosted by NJN News reporter Marie DeNoia, NJN Classics airs on NJN Sundays at 11:00 pm. Beyond JAWS: Down Under with the Great White Shark was originally broadcast in 1994.
