Images/Imagenes Celebrates Puerto Rican Heritage Month
Thursdays at 6:30 pm; rebroadcast Sundays at 8 pm on NJN Public Television
STATEWIDE – This month Images/Imagenes celebrates Latino culture through song and dance while also educating viewers about outreach programs available for families in need of health and social services. For over three decades, Images/Imagenes has examined the critical issues of New Jersey’s Hispanic population. Images/Imagenes can be seen on Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Sundays at 8 am, and is web streamed and archived on the NJN web site at njn.net. The program can be seen on cable stations throughout New Jersey, on NJN’s JerseyVision and on Time Warner Cable on channel 750 in New York.
LATINO JAZZ ON THE HARP
Thursday, November 3, at 6:30 pm; rebroadcast Sunday, November 6, at 8 am
The harp is originally of African origin yet its use in Latin Jazz is only now starting to emerge. The history of the harp is brought to life through the talent and wisdom of Edmar Castaneda, a young man making Latin Jazz history. Castaneda and his band take viewers on a musical journey with one of the world’s first instruments.
CHILDREN FIRST
Thursday, November 10, at 6:30 pm; rebroadcast Sunday, November 13, at 8 am
Children First is a special presentation aimed at families with young children who are in need of health & social services but are not aware of the new programs available to them. The Hispanic Directors Association of New Jersey has designated several Latino neighborhood agencies to lend a hand and provide guidance with an outreach program called Children First. Images/Imagenes identifies the agencies and provides information where families can get help for their children.
PUERTO RICO
Thursday, November 17, at 6:30 pm; rebroadcast Sunday, November 20 at 8 am
This episode of Images/Imagenes explores the history of the tropical island paradise of Puerto Rico. Journeying back to November of 1493, the documentary explores the day Christopher Columbus landed on a Caribbean island, naming it San Juan Bautista in honor of Saint John the Baptist. Original inhabitants, the Taino Indians called the island Boriken, or land of the brave Lord. On Saturday, November 19, 2005, Puerto Rico will celebrate its 512th anniversary.

If you are a dancer, a singer or a lover of heart-pounding jam sessions, this program is a must-see. Join Salsa super star, Herman Oliveras, in a tribute to a legacy of great music and lessons on the history of Latin dancing. Taped at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, this program is bound to make your feet move. Pulsating Salsa was sponsored by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
