All New Season of NJ Works on NJN

STATEWIDE - With the launch of its eighth season, NJ Works is the state's single on-air resource for inspiration, encouragement and advice regarding careers, employment and all things related. An NJN original weekly program sponsored by the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the show helps working men and women make career choices through original field reports, studio interviews and special features which highlight individuals who are "in the know" - all themed around job trends, careers and the workplace.

The job of a lifetime awaits viewers in every episode of a Career Minute; New Jersey 's best human resource executives give valuable advice in exclusive Reliable Sources reports; and the Works Headlines team updates audiences on important workforce news. Hosted by Christopher Ridenhour with reporters Lauren Wanko and Matthew DeLucia, and commentary by Jay Whitehead, NJ Works provides viewers with a fast-paced experience that includes specific topics appealing to those of all ages. Tune into NJ Works on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm and again on Saturdays at 9 am to move your career forward.

Next Stop, Your Career

In Next Stop, Your Career , NJ Works explores the "next step," demonstrating how hardworking high school students find support and encouragement for developing career paths. Dedicated educators discuss providing advanced career resources to the Garden State 's future workforce using www.njnextstop.org , an innovative website benefiting workers of all ages. This week's Career Minute takes a look at the many unique skills of a pre-press technician. Viewers get the inside scoop on hiring practices from New Jersey's best human resource executives in the show's exclusive Reliable Sources report segment. The Works Headlines team provides updates on all the workforce news for the week.  

Back to Basics

Join host Christopher Ridenhour as he and NJ Works get "back to the basics."  In today's ever-changing world, there sometimes comes a point when it's time to start over - NJ Works shows how employers expand the skills of their workers thanks to the aid of state grants. NJ Works hears from hardworking employees who benefit from the program and shares the story of three determined women who have switched gears to become successful dental assistants. Be Your Own Boss and Hire Your Neighbor

Host Christopher Ridenhour sits down with Donna M. Scheel, Self-Employment Assistance (SEA) coordinator at the NJ Law and Welfare Development to discuss the NJ SEA and Entrepreneurial Training Program. The program assists those qualified unemployed individuals who wish to set up businesses in the state. NJ Works shares in the success of one such New Jersey entrepreneur as he up sells after being downsized. Many jobs are actually created by small to midsized companies; NJ Works takes a look at one particular homegrown New Jersey company.

Hands-on Experience

Internships and apprenticeships are viable options to acquiring a trade. Host Christopher Ridenhour and studio guest Ken Zimmerman, executive director of the NJ Institute for Social Justice in Newark , discuss construction trades training for women and minorities. The organization has been successful in getting individuals into union sponsored apprenticeships. NJ Works takes a closer look at each option and examines a local company that participates in such an apprenticeship program, offering insight to NJN viewers.

Season's Greetings

NJ Works hits the roads of the Garden State for this week's special report on seasonal jobs. Whether it's a student on school holiday or a returning retiree, these jobs might be the ticket to some extra cash. This week's show will demonstrate the various kinds of jobs available and the industries from which they originate. "Will you really like working when you could be playing?" One seasoned veteran insists that you can eat your cake and have it too.
