No Direction Home: Bob Dylan, A Martin Scorcese Picture
October 8 and 9 at 9 pm
On NJN Public Television
STATEWIDE – A documentary event that brings together two of the most celebrated names in entertainment, AMERICAN MASTERS No Direction Home: Bob Dylan, A Martin Scorsese Picture airs on NJN on Saturday, October 8 at 9 pm, and on Sunday, October 9 at 9 pm. Directed by noted director Martin Scorsese, No Direction Home is the first ever feature-length film biography of musician Bob Dylan. Known for his work on such dramatic films as Raging Bull, Goodfellas and The Aviator, Scorsese is an avid chronicler of the history of American popular music. “For me, there is no other musical artist who weaves his influences so densely to create something so personal and unique," says Scorsese of the singer-songwriter.
From Dylan’s explosive arrival on the downtown New York City scene in 1961 — with a raspy voice, pounding guitar and stunning lyrics — through his near-fatal motorcycle accident in Woodstock in 1966, no one has had more of a profound impact on contemporary music. Private, almost reclusive, disdainful of customary forms of publicity, Dylan finally makes an appearance in his own story, illuminated in particular by this remarkable five-year period.
This intimate and incomparable film includes an archive of literally never-before-seen footage from childhood, from the road and from backstage, as well as unreleased interviews conducted over the past 15 years with other seminal figures of the time, some of whom, like Allan Ginsberg, have long since passed. Relive Dylan’s legendary music: Blowin’ in the Wind, Like a Rolling Stone, Don’t Think Twice, Mr. Tambourine Man, It Ain’t Me Babe, Just Like a Woman, The Times They Are A-Changin’ – to name a few.
