NJN Examines Port Security in Protecting Our Ports
On Public Television
Tuesday, May 24, at 6:30 pm; rebroadcast Sunday, May 29, at 11:30 am
STATEWIDE – NJN presents Protecting Our Ports, a special program with NJN News correspondent Jim Hooker. Hooker travels to the Netherlands with a New Jersey trade delegation to examine what that country is doing to protect its ports in the post-9/11 world. Security in the Netherlands is considered cutting edge. The country also enjoys a unique partnership with the US, sharing resources and strategies to keep our seaports secure from infiltration by terrorists. The special draws comparisons between the progress in port security and the work that still needs to be done in the US, in the Netherlands and around the world. Watch Protecting Our Ports on NJN on Tuesday, May 24, at 6:30 pm, with a rebroadcast on Sunday, May 29, at 11:30 am.
Protecting Our Ports includes interviews with many Dutch port officials as well as the Honorable Clifford Sobel, the US Ambassador to the Netherlands; Kathleen Haage-Gaynor, Area Director, United States Customs and Border Protection; and Anthony Coscia, Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The New Jersey delegation includes the honorable Tom Kean, former New Jersey governor and 9/11 Commission chair; Senator Jon Corzine; Joan Verplanck, president of the NJ State Chamber of Commerce; Sam Crane, vice president of Maher Terminals, the state’s largest shipping company; and other business leaders.
“Safety and security are serious considerations in the development of a post-9/11 world. NJN is pleased to offer an informative program addressing national and international security concerns,” says Elizabeth Christopherson, executive director of NJN Public Television & Radio.
Protecting Our Ports will be web cast on the NJN web site at www.njn.net. The program can be seen on NJN JerseyVision and on Time Warner Cable on channel 750 in New York. This program has been closed-captioned for your convenience.
