NJ Works Visits the Police Academy on NJN
Wednesdays at 6:30 pm; rebroadcast Saturdays at 9 am

STATEWIDE – NJ Works is the state’s on-air resource for inspiration, encouragement and advice regarding careers, employment and all things related. An NJN original weekly program sponsored by the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the show helps working men and women make career choices through original field reports, studio interviews and special features which highlight individuals who are “in the know” – all themed around job trends, careers and the workplace. The job of a lifetime awaits viewers in every episode of a Career Minute; New Jersey’s best human resource executives give valuable advice in exclusive Reliable Sources reports; and the Works Headlines team updates audiences on important workforce news. Hosted by Christopher Ridenhour with reporters Lauren Wanko and Matt DeLucia, and commentary by Jay Whitehead, NJ Works provides viewers with a fast-paced experience that includes specific topics appealing to those of all ages.

Police Academy 2005

Police Academy 2005 is a summer boot camp for high school students who may one day join the ranks of those who serve and protect New Jersey. This week’s Career Minute profiles the energetic job of a fitness trainer, a job that requires training techniques, instructional ability, certification and knowledge of human anatomy and dietary needs. Being in top shape certainly won’t hurt.

Job 1: Customer Service

The customer always comes first, but the same also applies to workers. Making customer service a top priority, NJ Works meets with both employers and employees to learn about their success. With so many people who just love to shop, this Career Minute segment features a job for habitual shoppers who have a little clairvoyance and hard nosed negotiation skills.

NJ Works takes a look at the many neighborhood programs and services that offer rewarding job opportunities. A unique twist awaits viewers in the Career Minute segment where unemployment is just part of the job for claims takers.

Down on the Farm

New Jersey does not take its status as the Garden State lightly. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, there is a growing opportunity for workers as well. Check out this week’s Career Minute featuring the unique job of those workers who help bring fresh produce to local markets.
