NJN Recognized for Excellence in Programming
With Two Mid-Atlantic Emmys
STATEWIDE – NJN Public Television and Radio recently received two Emmy Awards from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Television Academy. “We are delighted to be recognized by our peers for our exceptional programs, which this year include a series featuring New Jersey’s public schools and an in-depth focus on the arts, ” said NJN Executive Director Elizabeth Christopherson. The awards were announced on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the Marriott in Philadelphia.
The Academy is a nonprofit professional association serving the television community in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware region. The chapter administers the Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards honoring excellence in news, programming and individual achievement in the region. Entries come from commercial and public broadcasters, cable stations, independent producers and production companies.
The following NJN programs received 2004 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards:
Outstanding Public Affairs Series: Classroom Close-up, NJ
Classroom Close-up, NJ is a half-hour, weekly magazine program, which focuses on innovative education in New Jersey’s public schools. It features the students, teachers, and communities that create and participate in successful school projects and events. The series is a co-production of the New Jersey Education Association and NJN Public Television. Additional funding is provided by PSE&G,
Bristol-Myers Squibb and NJ FamilyCare.

Outstanding Program Feature/Informational: State of the Arts – Young At Heart, June 2003
Young At Heart was a segment of State of the Arts that profiled the life of Dorothy Young: dancer, painter, writer, and philanthropist. A resident of Ocean Grove, NJ, and now 94, Mrs. Young calls her proudest accomplishment the endowment she provided for the construction of the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts at Drew University. State of the Arts is a half-hour arts and culture magazine program that has earned more than twenty Mid-Atlantic Emmys among numerous other awards. The program has been co-produced by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts since 1985. Funding is also provided by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
