Get Down Tonight – The Disco Explosion
On NJN Public Television in December
STATEWIDE – NJN Public Television presents Get Down Tonight – The Disco Explosion on Saturday, December 4, at 6 pm, with encore performances on Sunday, December 5, at 8 pm and 10 pm; Wednesday, December 8, at 9 pm; Friday, December 10 at 11:30 pm; and Saturday, December 11 at 8 pm. Get Down Tonight was taped this past summer at the historic Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and was first broadcast on NJN in October before being shown nationally this December. KC and The Sunshine Band hosts a reunion of superstars from the 1970s disco and dance era with a mixture of new live performances and classic archival clips as well as vintage performances from artists like The Bee Gees and Donna Summer. Live highlights include Leo Sayer returning to America for the first time in 30 years to sing You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, A Taste of Honey returning for the first time in two decades to groove with Boogie Oogie Oogie, Wild Cherry returning to the stage after three decades to Play That Funky Music and Martha Wash of the Weather Girls belting out It’s Raining Men.

Get Down Tonight is the creation of executive producer and New Jersey native TJ Lubinsky, who partnered with NJN Public Television and Radio to co-produce this national television event. Lubinsky has brought together the world of 1970s disco and dance in a performance that preserves a segment of American music and offers viewers an opportunity to witness music history through outstanding performances by first-rate artists.
