NJN KIDS: DragonflyTV
On NJN Public Television
Mondays through Fridays at 11:30
STATEWIDE – DragonflyTV, a children’s program focusing on scientific investigations, is now on NJN television Mondays through Fridays at 11:30 am . Get ready for some real reality programming. DragonflyTV is not like any science show you’ve seen, but one of the most unique science programs around. Kids are running the show, performing the experiments and discussing the outcomes.
DragonflyTV’s simple formula, which is enjoyed by over one million viewers per week, is real kids doing real science. DragonflyTV takes science out of the classroom, and plops it down in the creepy caves, wild whitewater, family garages and hometown hockey rinks of America . And whatever the locale, DragonflyTV gets personal. Sure, creative children do cool investigations about everything from mutts to Mars, but the show also dives into the lives of these kids. What are they curious about, interested in, afraid of? Why do they love science and exploration? DragonflyTV’s nonstop pop soundtrack and fast camera cuts provide the perfect high-energy backdrop for these youngsters to talk about their science and themselves. It’s reality programming for the thinking kid. DragonflyTV is Real World meets Bill Nye the Science Guy:
The program’s interactive features connect the broadcast and its companion web site at http://pbskids.org/dragonflytv/, giving viewers fun opportunities for genuine participation.
Each week, DragonflyTV’s hosts throw down a new science challenge, encouraging kids to explore a cool science question and post their findings online. Then, for the first time on a PBS kid’s show, the very next episode will feature this “e-data,” highlighting children’s names, cities, ideas, questions and other discoveries. This web/broadcast interactivity makes the viewers active creators of content and makes DragonflyTV a 24/7, multimedia science experience. And with Educator’s Guides, DragonflyTV Magazine for Kids, science fair tips and much more just a click away at http://pbskids.org/dragonflytv/, anyone can create a DragonflyTV science adventure.
On DragonflyTV , the show that US News and World Report calls “smart", and Ladies Home Journal deems “super cool,” no one is voted off the island. No one is upbraided by snooty judges, and no one walks away in second place. When real kids do real science, everybody wins.
DragonflyTV is produced by TPT/Twin Cities Public Television, with major funding provided by Best Buy Children’s Foundation and the National Science Foundation. The show is broadcast nationally over PBS member stations. Best Buy Children's Foundation awards grants to non-profit youth development programs across the country. In addition to funding DragonflyTV, Best Buy Children's Foundation supports efforts by organizations such as Junior Achievement, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and more. The Foundation has been reaching out to children's groups across America since 1994.
