With Three Mid-Atlantic Emmys

STATEWIDE
- "NJN Public Television is proud to receive three Emmys
from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Television Academy,"
announced NJN Executive Director Elizabeth Christopherson
today. The Academy is a nonprofit professional association
serving the television community in the Pennsylvania, New
Jersey and Delaware region. The chapter administers the Mid-Atlantic
Emmy Awards honoring excellence in news, programming and individual
achievement in the region. "We are delighted to be recognized
by our peers for our excellent programming including the most
comprehensive New Jersey news programs, the best in the arts
and important programs on health issues of value to the public."

(includes NY and Philadelphia)

Outstanding
Health and Science Program: The Gift of Life
For excellence in a single program, either part of a program
series or a program special about health or science issues.
The Gift of Life is a heartwarming documentary
that explores the crucial need for bone marrow donors. Sara
Lee Kessler, NJN Health & Medical Correspondent, is the
host and senior producer. The patients featured are among
the 3,000 people with life-threatening blood disorders who
search an international registry daily for a potential match.
They have failed to find one among family members and will
die without a transplant. The program was made possible in
part by The Blood Center of New Jersey, PNC Bank and the NJ
Commission on Cancer Research. Travel was made possible thanks
to a trade agreement with American Airlines.

is a half-hour arts magazine program that has earned over
twenty Mid-Atlantic Emmys among numerous other awards and
is recognized as one of the outstanding arts magazines in
the country. State of the Arts has been co-produced
by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts since 1985. Funding
is also provided by The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
