Elizabeth G. Christopherson, a lifelong resident of New Jersey, has added vibrancy to the life of our state through her leadership, vision and pride in serving our diverse communities.
She led NJN Public Television and Radio during an historic time for the broadcasting industry. She has been invited to the White House, national and international conferences to share NJN’s pace-setting initiatives. NJN has earned regional and national recognition for program excellence, innovation and best practices.
With her vision, NJN developed a national model for an adult literacy program. NJN engaged New Jersey’s business leaders and policy makers in a broadband planning initiative, culminating in a broadband summit and national toolkit for other states to emulate. In partnership with the Dodge Foundation, NJN initiated a program to recruit the best young journalists nationally.
A leader and advocate for ethical standards and best practices as Executive Director of NJN and a Board member of the national PBS organization, Ms. Christopherson was instrumental on the PBS task force developing the PBS policy of editorial integrity.
This year, Ms. Christopherson assumed a new role with the Rita Allen Foundation as President and CEO. Established in 1953, the Foundation supports outstanding scientists in the early stages of their research careers in the fields of cancer, neuroscience and immunology.
Ms. Christopherson is the recipient of five honorary degrees and numerous awards for public service including the prestigious 2007 Women Who Make a Difference Award from the International Women’s Forum (IWF) and was one of ten recipients chosen worldwide.
